Unbelief Spoken

Passage: Luke 1:18-25
Service Type:

Unbelief Spoken Luke 1:18-25

1. Zacharias’ unbelief spoken (v. 18) “I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.” Even though his wife and him have prayed for years for a child when the God answered his prayers he did not believe it.

2. Zacharias’ unbelief is silenced (vv. 19-20). He is struck dumb by the angel Gabriel and not able to speak, until the day that these things came true.

3. Zacharias’ unbelief set right (vv. 21-25) in three stages. The first was that the people marveled that he tarried so long in the temple (v. 21). The second when he finally came out the people immediately realized that he had seen a vision in the temple (v. 22). The third his wife conceived (v. 24).

Application: “God is the God of humble beginnings and humble people, and he used Zacharias and Elizabeth because of their faithfulness and despite their shortcomings. He gave them a son who would have the highest privilege of all – to be the greatest prophet because he was the forerunner of the Messiah. Though today is no longer the age of miracles, God still uses common people to faithfully proclaim the good news of salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20; 1 Peter 2:9; 3:15) – the story that began with God’s miraculous intervention in the lives of two humble, righteous people”
