Mary’s Song
Mary’s Song – Luke 1:46-56
Theologians refer to this passage as Magnificat. This taken from the Latin for “my soul doth magnify the Lord.” This Mary’s song. Now, you will recall that Mary here is being overshadowed by the Holy Ghost and Jesus the Christ is being conceived in her womb. There are at least four divine attributes about which Mary praises God in her song:
She worships God in His mighty power (vv. 49-50)
She magnified God in His pristine and perfect holiness (v.49)
She extolled God because of His mercy for sinners (v.50)
She honored God because of His everlasting faithfulness in fulfilling His promises (v.54-55)
Application:
Do you have cause to honor God? Honor him because of His everlasting Faithfulness in fulfilling His promises. Do you have cause to extoll God? Extoll Him because of His mercy for sinners. Do you have cause to magnify Him? Magnify Him because of His pristine and perfect holiness. Do you have cause to worship Him? Worship Him because of His mighty Power.
