Colossians 1:15-18 Part 2 – Four Descriptions of Jesus Christ
In Colossians 1:15-18 Paul provides four descriptions of Jesus Christ:
1. Jesus Christ is the image of God – Deity (v. 15a)
2. Jesus Christ is the first born of creation – Supremacy (v. 15b-17a)
3. Jesus Christ is the sustainer of all things – Sovereignty (v. 17)
4. Jesus Christ is the head of the church – Pre-eminency (v. 18)
The Apostle Paul started to give the Colossians countermeasures for the lies that had crept into their church. So here in this text, both the Apostle and the Pastor moved to give them the main countermeasure. What is this countermeasure? The Lord Jesus Christ is the main countermeasure! How so? Because He is the image of God – Diety. Because He is the first born – Supremacy. Because He is the sustainer of all things – Sovereignty.
