The Preaching Of John
The Preaching of John – Luke 3:7-17
John the Baptist was a peculiar preacher. He was different. He was distinct. The Gospel of Matthew informs us that “John wore clothing made of camels hair with a leather belt around his waist, and his diet consists of locusts and wild honey.”
As peculiar as his appearance was, his preaching was unfamiliar – meaning they’ve never heard anything like it before. What did he preach? He preached repentance. What is repentance?
Here are five clues to true and biblical repentance:
A truly repentant person reflects on personal sin, v. 7a
A truly repentant person recognizes the wrath of God, v. 7b
A truly repentant person renounces ancestry, v. 8b
A truly repentant person reveals spiritual transformation, vv. 8-14
A truly repentant person receives the Messiah, vv. 15-17
